Why your back pain isn’t actually coming from your back
If you’ve been dealing with back pain, especially the kind that keeps coming back, you’re not alone.

Here in The Villages, I meet so many active adults who’ve tried just about everything: stretching, injections, heating pads, massage… and still, the pain returns. The reason? Most treatments are focused on the wrong area.

The Pain You Feel ≠ The Problem You Have
It sounds strange, but it’s true:
The place you feel pain isn’t always the place that needs treatment.
Pain is the body’s alarm system. But just like a fire alarm might go off in the hallway even though the smoke is in the kitchen, your back may be screaming while the *actual cause* lies somewhere else entirely.
What Could Be Causing Your Back Pain?
When I work with clients, I often find that their pain is being triggered by:
- Fascial restrictions in the abdomen, hips, or even the diaphragm
- Nerve dysfunction coming from the feet, neck, or deep spinal structures
- Old injuries that never fully healed (even from decades ago)
- Stress or strain patterns that have been building for years
- Or a combination of all the above
And if you only treat the back — with heat, stretches, or general exercises — you might get short-term relief... but not a real fix.
What Makes My Approach Different
As a Doctor of Physical Therapy, I use a gentle hands-on method called Fascial Counterstrain that allows me to test and treat the actual origin of your pain — no guessing, no cookie-cutter routines.
It’s especially helpful for people who feel like they’ve “tried everything” and are ready for something different.
In most cases, we’re able to release deep restrictions in the body that are creating strain patterns — without causing more pain in the process.
You Don’t Have to Just Live With It
I created ReKinect Physical Therapy for people just like you — active, health-minded adults who want to keep moving and doing what they love.
If you’re in The Villages and tired of back pain that keeps coming back, I’d love to talk with you.
